HOD Profile

Dr. S. A. Vara Prasad is an accomplished academician and researcher with over 17 years of professional experience in engineering education and industry. He began his career as a Service Engineer at SS Technologies, Hyderabad (2008–2009), later served as a Lecturer at Samhitha Degree College (2009–2011), and joined BVC College of Engineering as an Assistant Professor (2014–2021). Since July 2021, he has been serving as the Head of the Department (ECE). He holds a Ph.D. from NIT Silchar (2025) and has qualified PGECET and APRCET. His academic responsibilities include serving as BoS Chairman, Academic Council Member Secretary, Anti-Ragging Committee Convenor, Project Coordinator, Counsellor, and Lab In-charge. His research interests focus on Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Medical Image Processing, and Schizophrenia Diagnosis. He has published 12+ research papers in reputed SCI/Scopus-indexed journals, including Applied Soft Computing, Brain Sciences, and Psychiatry Research: Neuroimaging. Dr. Vara Prasad has completed several NPTEL, Coursera, and Faculty Development Programmes in Machine Learning, Deep Learning, AWS, Cyber Security, and Digital Image Processing. He is also a member of CSTA, IAENG, and ICSES, and has served as a mentor, judge, and research guide for various technical competitions and innovation projects.
